Applying for your Wisconsin marriage license just got a whole lot easier! Did you know you can now apply for your marriage license completely virtually?!
The Dane County Clerk’s office in Madison now provides virtual (100% REMOTE) marriage license appointments for anyone planning to marry in the State of Wisconsin. This means that you can have a virtual appointment with them, they will review your applications, and they will provide your license all online!
Their website provides all the details here.
This is a brief overview of how everything works:
All appointments are self-selected by the couples after going to their website. Just like an in-person appointment, couples will be required to upload or present their documentation including:
Birth certificates
State IDs or driver's licenses
Proof of residency
If applicable, prior divorce or annulment documents
All information (above and on the application form) will be checked and verified by a Marriage License Clerk. Payment for the license will be accepted after the appointment.
What's so great about this?
The Beauty of Technology:
All of the appointments happen over Zoom.
Couples can be together in the comfort of their own home or located in two completely different locations.
No need to take off time from work.
No need to commute to the Clerk's office and figuring out where to park.
We are so excited for this option for engaged couples because we know how hard this process can be to squeeze into busy lives in the weeks right before the wedding, especially for those couples who are planning from out of town. We are grateful to the clerk’s office for striving to make this part of the process as easy and hassle-free as possible with virtual marriage license appointments!
